Our Story

Where It All Began

Fast forward to March of 2025, I was 5 months post-breakup, and I invited Hunter to get coffee with me so I could get to know him better as a friend. Hunter decided this would be the perfect opportunity to admit he had feelings for me. I was genuinely surprised when he told me at the end of our time together, but I had liked him since December, so I was happy the feelings were reciprocated. We started going on dates shortly after that and decided to start officially dating in May.

It was not until I was invited to join the Thailand Vision Trip through our church that I began to meet multiple members of the Sweet Family. I first met Haley, Hunter’s sister, who would later become my roommate in Thailand. Then I met Heidi, Hunter’s mother, who was the lead teacher in the class we taught together in Thailand. Then I had the opportunity to get to know Hunter a little better through the monthly meetings we attended to prepare for the trip.

How We Met

We first “officially” met during our time together at Fireside, which is a young adult group at College Park Church. A few months later, we found ourselves in the same group chat with several others who also regularly attended Fireside. This group became close and hung out multiple times throughout the week. I consistently attended these hangouts while Hunter made an appearance every once in a while.

In Thailand, I grew closer to Hunter, Haley, and Heidi, and we continued the friendship when we returned home. Now, my personal experience with returning from Thailand was that Hunter hated me and wasn't interested in talking to me anymore. Hunter's experience is that I was still dating someone else, and he didn't want to overstep, though he has admitted to me several times now that he told friends when we got back from Thailand that he doesn't know how he feels about me but that he is pretty certain that we are going to get married one day.

Where We Are Going

Hunter and I decided to get married in February of 2026 and began looking into wedding venues to see if a same year wedding was possible. When we found Iron and Ember we knew that was the place we wanted to get married. Hunter proposed to me in May and surprised me with our friend taking pictures of the proposal. We deeply love each other in a way neither of us knew was possible. It is a beautiful thing to find a life partner that is also your best friend.
